SilverRock Resort is set against Santa Rosa Mountains

Bring your A game to Silver Rock in La Quinta

SilverRock Resort s the city of La Quinta’s entry in the public golf market with its upscale municipal course. The amenities match those offered at similar courses as does the rack rate–$165 per round.

The course is tucked up against the Santa Rosa Mountains with a few holes routed along the mountains. The Arnold Palmer-design also takes advantage of the All-American Canal,  bringing it into play on the par 5, 12th (it bisects the fairway and must be carried on the second shot) as well as providing the left border to the difficult No. 16 (488 from the tips and par 4).

Mix in other water hazards as well as immense sand traps and the course provides quite a test. Palmer’s design includes plenty of sand around the greens as well as both fairway traps and desert waste areas. One curiosity—two very short part 3s (one non-descript 165 from tips, 95 from the blues with just one bunker and the other was just 140 from the blues and 118 from the whites).

It was one of the Bob Hope Classic courses until 2015 when the Humana Challenge moved to the La Quinta Country Club.

With locals paying about one-third of the rack rate, it’s very popular for residents. The routing along the mountains is similar to that of the private courses at PGA West that are displayed during the Humana tourney as well as at the two La Quinta Resort courses.
