Cal Moves Up On Final Day Of The Goodwin

The No. 19 California men’s golf team climbed six spots to finish tied for 14th place at The Goodwin with a 1-under-par 279 in the third round Saturday at TPC Harding Park. The Golden Bears (+22) were one of just 10 squads in the 31-team field to shoot under par in the final round of the three-day tournament.

Sampson Zheng (-2) led the way, tying for sixth individually after carded a 2-under 68 on Saturday. The senior – who has finished inside the top 10 at The Goodwin three times in his career – notched three birdies on holes 3, 10 and 16. Eric Lee (+2) jumped 29 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 23rd with a 3-under 67 in the final round, marking Cal’s lowest 18-hole score of the tournament. The freshman had an eventful final 18 holes, tallying seven total birdies, including a span of four between holes 10-17, to counter four bogeys.

All six Bears in competition shot 72 or lower Saturday, including an even-par 70 by Jeewon Park.

Georgia (-1) won the team title, beating out Utah (E), Stanford (+4), Tennessee (+5) and Georgia Tech (+6). Utah’s Braxton Watts (-5) was the individual medalist.
