Featuring top professionals on the PGA TOUR Championsā€™ circuit as well as teenagers from First Tee chapters from around the country and teams of amateurs, the annual PURE Insurance Championship is scheduled for Sept. 20-25 on the Monterey Peninsula.

Play will be conducted on Friday and Saturday at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. The final round will be contested solely at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Sunday, where 23 First Tee juniors compete based on their 36-hole performance. The tournament will crown one male and one female First Tee Junior Champion on Sunday.

Hosted by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation and chaired by Clint Eastwood, the event will be televised nationally on Golf Channel. The public will be admitted free to view play on Pebble Beach Golf Links (no spectating at Spyglass Hill). Complimentary parking is offered at Special Events Field/Lot 10 in Pebble Beach with shuttle service provided directly to the course.

In addition to practice rounds for three days beginning Tuesday, The Hay ā€” the nine-hole short course redesigned by Tiger Woods ā€” will serve as host to the Chevron Challenge on Thursday with six juniors and six professionals playing for charity.

When play begins Friday, the 78-player professional field will feature a pair of three-time event previous champions, Kirk Triplett and Jeff Sluman. They will be joined by past winners Jim Furyk (2019) and Bernhard Langer (2017), as well as Mark Oā€™Meara (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am five-time winner), Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Steven Alker, who is atop the Charles Schwab Cup money list for 2022.

Three concurrent competitions are held at the PURE Insurance Championship. The 2021 winners were:

  • Professional: K.J. Choi
  • Pro-Junior Division (team net best ball): Tim Petrovic and junior golfer Sydney Craven (First Tee-Monterey County);
  • Pro-Junior Division (male): Rocco Mediate and Colin Vineberg (First Tee-Greater Baltimore); and
  • Amateur Division: Matthew Schreibeis and Steven Pincus.

Volunteers for varied positions are needed for this yearā€™s tournament. Most volunteer committees require a minimum of three days of participation with positions including registration, guest services, scoring, marshaling, and transportation. Individuals interested in volunteering are asked to visit this link.

ā€œWe encourage spectators to come out and enjoy the tournament as the setup with the pros and First Tee youths is so unique and fun to watch,ā€ said Steve John, CEO, Monterey Peninsula Foundation. ā€œPlus, Pebble Beach Golf Links is at its most spectacular since the last week in September typically provides us with perfect weather.ā€

More than 1,000 teens from First Tee have played in the PURE Insurance Championship, experiencing the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet, play, and be mentored by PGA TOUR Champions players and amateurs in the field.

First TeeĀ is a youth development organization that teaches life skills and helps kids and teens build their strength of character through golf. The PURE Insurance Championship is one of several national opportunities First Tee Headquarters provides to encourage and motivate participants as they progress through the program and toward higher education opportunities.
