Antonia Malate shot an even-par 72 in the final round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick MCGuire Invitational to help the San José State women’s golf team to a second-place finish Tuesday afternoon at the UNM Championship Course.
Malate finished fourth in the individual standings at six-under 210 after shooting three-under 69s in the first two rounds. She recorded her fourth top-five finish of her Spartan career. Malate started the final round by making an eagle on the par-5 first hole, the 3rd eagle of her SJSU career.
Three other Spartans finished in the top-21 at the tournament. Kajsa Arwefjäll shot a one-over 73 and tied for 13th at one-over 217. Lucia Lopez Ortega tied for 16th at two-over 218 after shooting a 75 on Tuesday. Natasha Andrea Oon tied for 21st at three-over 219 after recorded a 73 in the final round.
Jordyn Parr rounded out the Spartan lineup, shooting a 77 in the final round to tie for 53rd at 226. Louisa Carlbom, playing as an individual, tied for 74th at 231.
The Spartans shot a 293 in the final round to end the tournament at even-par 864. Brigham Young had the round of the day, shooting an eight-under 280 to win the tournament at 6-under 858.
SJSU led the tournament in par-five scoring at -10 and pars made with 181. The team made 41 birdies over the three rounds, led by Malate’s 12.
San José State is back in action for The Molly Collegiate Invitational September 27 & 28 at Bayonet & Black Horse in Seaside.
