California men’s golfer Sampson Zheng was named to the 2024 NCAA Division I PING All-America Third Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. It’s the second consecutive year that the former Golden Bear standout earned an All-America nod, as he was tabbed to the second team in 2023.
Zheng – who graduated from Cal with a degree in economics in May – is just the ninth golfer in program history to be selected to multiple All-America teams in his career. The full list of first, second, third and honorable mention GCAA All-America teams can be viewed on collegiategolf.com.
Zheng, also an All-Pac-12 First Team and GCAA/PING All-West Region Team selection, averaged 70.87 strokes per round and shot 7-under-par across 31 total rounds played as a senior in 2023-24. He was the driving force behind Cal’s first NCAA Championships appearance since 2019, as he reeled off five straight top-10 finishes from March 5-May 15, including a runner-up finish at the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional.
Zheng finished 14th in the PGA TOUR University rankings at the conclusion of the 2023-24 collegiate season, and earned fully exempt membership on PGA TOUR Americas for the remainder of the 2024 professional campaign, as well as an exemption for the second stage of 2024 PGA TOUR Q-School.
