The Memorial, otherwise known as the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, turns 50 this week as the focus on the golf world is on Muirfield Village in Ohio.
This has always been a tournament that perhaps means a little more to a golfer when they win it as with Jack Nicklaus – or Mr. Nicklaus as so many professional golfers refer to him – is the host and greets the players when they finish their rounds.
This week Scottie Scheffler will be shooting for his third straight win in the tournament. That is something that has not happened since 2009-2011 when Steve Stricker took the John Deere three consecutive years.
The field is loaded with nine of the top 10 players in the world entered, including the top six ranked players. The U.S. Open is two weeks out and many players are using the Memorial as their final tuneup for the Open.
Take Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick for example. The duo that have combined to win five tournaments this year, are making their first appearances since the PGA Championships.
The tournament will be covered on television from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on the Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, it will be on the Golf Channel from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., then 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on CBS.
