Cal finishes 15th at The Goodwin

Freshman Ziqin (Eric) Zhou highlighted four Golden Bears who moved up the individual leaderboard on the final round of The Goodwin as the California men’s golf team finished tied for 15th overall in the three-day, 54-hole tournament at Stanford Golf Club.

Cal shot 2-over-par 282 in the third round – its best 18-hole score of the tournament – to climb one spot and finish at 17 over (857). The Bears’ former Pac-12 counterparts UCLA (-11) and Colorado (-2) topped the 30-team field while Northwestern (-1), BYU (E), SMU (+3) and Santa Clara (+3) rounded out the top five.

Zhou shot 2-under 68 on Saturday and moved up 23 spots into a tie for 21st overall at 1-over-par. The rookie tallied birdies on holes 5, 6, 11 and 15 to overcome a double bogey on 14. Graduate senior Wenliang Xie joined Zhou in the red with a 1-under 69, using three birdies on 4, 7 and 11 to balance out a double bogey on 10. Both Charlie Berridge and Kai Hirayama moved up the leaderboard as well, tying for 104th at 12 over.
