Ties were popular for the San José State women’s golf team on Tuesday as Natasha Andrea Oon tied for second individually at even-par 216, and the Spartans tied with UCLA for second in the team standings at The Molly Collegiate Invitational at Bayonet & Black Horse in Seaside, Calif.
•Oon shot a one-under 71 in the final round to tie for second with Caroline Sturdza of Stanford. They were three shots behind the winner, Rose Zhang of Stanford who shot a four-under 68 on Tuesday.
•Oon now has 13 top-10 finishes in her Spartan career.
•Antonia Malate tied for fifth at three-over 219. She shot a 74 in the third round, making three birdies, and led the tournament in par-four scoring at -1.
•All five players finished in the top-30 individual ranking. Kajsa Arwefjäll tied for 16th at nine-over 225, followed by Lucia Lopez Ortega in 20th place at 11-over 227, and Jordyn Parr in 28th place at 13-over 229.
•San José State shot a 294 in the final round to tie with UCLA for second at 885 (+21). Stanford won the tournament at +14 after shooting a six-under 282 in the third round.
•The Spartans led the field in pars made with 175, and third in birdies made at 33.
•San José State’s next competition is at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah, October 11-12, in Medinah, Ill.
