Scheffler vs. Korda! Two amazing runs!

Last week I posed the question, “Is Scottie Scheffler making golf boring.” This came after he won The Masters for the second straight year, and it was his third win in his last four starts.

So, what did Scheffler do for an encore? He goes out and wins the RBC Heritage Open at Hilton Head. It was the first time in 39 years since someone won the Masters and the RBC Heritage, accomplished by Bernhard Langer in 1985.

It had been since 2006 that a player won a major and then the PGA Tour the next week. That was some guy named Tiger that turned that trick.

It has been a pretty sensational run for Scheffler.

Nelly Korda says, “Hold my beer.”

All Korda has done in the same time span is win five straight times in the LPGA, including two majors. Since 1978 only Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez have won five straight LPGA tournaments.

It begs the question – who has had the better run, Scheffler or Korda?

My first thoughts were Scheffler as the Masters win was weighing heavily on my mind.

But after a bit it was obvious that it must be Korda. First, splitting hairs it’s five straight wins versus four wins and a second.

Also, the Masters field was loaded, but looking at the other four tournaments, they were without the LIV players like Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, Joaquin Nieman, Brooks Koepka, Taylor Gooch, Dustin Johnson, and Cameron Smith to name a few.

Korda is facing the best professionals in her sport each week out. It’s not Scheffler’s fault as he is going out and beating whoever is put in front of him each week.

The PGA Tour is still full of amazing golfers, but the fact is, the fields are not as strong as they were two years ago.

Both players are taking this week off, with Scheffler skipping the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and Korda missing the JM Eagle LA Championship.

Scheffler is home as his wife is ready to give birth to the couple’s first child any day. Korda stated exhaustion as the reason for taking a week off.

Either way, both players deserve some time down.

Zurich Classic

Even though Scheffler is on the sidelines this week, the Zurich Classic will be an interesting tournament to watch.

It is the lone team event on the PGA Tour as 80, 2-man teams will take on the TPC Louisiana. The first and the third rounds will be fourball where each player golfs their ball throughout the round, with the two taking the best ball as their score.

The second and fourth rounds are alternate shot – one player tees off, then the other hits the second, etc.

There will be a cut to the top 33 teams following the second round.
