Scottie Scheffler – world No. 1 – takes Procore Championships!

When the Procore Championships took place last weekend at the Resort at Silverado in the Napa Valley, I explained to my non-golf fan wife about the unique opportunity the tournament had this year.

With the Ryder Cup taking place September 26-28, U.S. Captain Keegan Bradley hoped to use the Procore as a chance to get as many of his 12 players together to play in the same tournament, and work on being a team.

The last tournament before the Ryder Cup happened to be the Procore. It turned out to be a coup for the Procore.

The time of year the tournament takes place is at a time where more of the top players take some time off and while the Procore gets a good field, it doesn’t get a great field.

But following Bradley’s hope to get as many Ryder Cup team members as possible at the tournament, the Procore got 10 of 12 Ryder Cup member from the U.S. Team at the event, including world No. 1 Scottie Sheffler.

And true to Scheffler’s form, if you’re playing in an event, you might as well win it. Sunday night my wife asked me how Scheffler did in the Procore. When I told her won the tournament, she said, “Of course he did.”

The biggest part of the win is that there is an understanding that players who win a tournament usually play the following year to defend their title.

Though that has been fading in the last 10 years, Scheffler is a stand-up guy and could come back to the Napa Valley. And if the top ranked player in the world returns, some of the other top players may do as well.

It would be huge for the Procore and huge for the Northern California golf community.

You know the ACES team will stay on top of the news from the Procore!

Here are some news and notes from the tournament.
