Todd Fischer of Pleasanton – who also offers instruction for ACES readers – qualified Monday with a round of 6-under to advance to a spot in the Ally Challenge on the PGA Champions Tour.
Fischer, who starred at Foothill High and the University of San Francisco before spending some time on the PGA Tour, recently turned 50 and qualified for the main field on the Champions Tour in just his second attempt.
In the Monday event at the Flint Golf Club, Fischer finished in a tie for third, good enough to get him into the main field. Esteban Toledo and Mark Walker tied for first at 7-under, with Fischer and Dennis Hendershott finishing at 6-under.
The tournament will run Friday through Sunday at the Warwick Golf and Country Club. Check back here each day of the tournament to see how Fischer is fairing. The tournament will be carried on the Golf Channel each day.
