Three Spartans finished in the top-20, led by Antonia Malate who tied for seventh place, as the San José State women’s golf team set the school record for the lowest 54-hole tournament score at 28-under 836 to finish third at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah.
- Malate shot a 1-under 71 in the final round and finished tied for seventh at 10-under 206 for her ninth top-10 finish of her Spartan career.
- Jordyn Parr notched her first top-20 finish as a Spartans as she tied for 13th at 7-under 209. She made two birdies and 13 pars during the final round including seven consecutive pars to end the day.
- Louisa Carlbom tied for 19th at 5-under 211, and shot a 2-under 70 in the final round. She started the round by making seven consecutive pars and two birdies.
- Kajsa Arwefjäll and Lucia Lopez Ortega were part of a group that tied for 40th at even-par 216. Arwefjäll had four birdies in her final round and led the field in pars made with 43.
- Lopez Ortega had three birdies and 11 pars during her round.
- The Spartans set the 54-hole school record for lowest score at 836 and by par at -28. The team set the record last season at the MountainView Collegiate by shooting 24-under, 840.
UP NEXT – The Spartans return to the Bay Area next weekend for the Stanford Intercollegiate, October 21-23 at the Stanford Golf Course. San José State is one of 18 teams participating in the tournament. The Spartans begin the tournament on Friday the 21st at 7:30 a.m. off the first tee with Iowa State. The team will start the second round on Saturday the 22nd at 12:00 p.m. off of the 10th tee. The final round on Sunday the 23rd will have an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Admission is free for all spectators.
