Simon Kwon shot under par for the third consecutive round and finished ninth individually, while the Cal men’s golf team wrapped up the San Diego Classic with an eighth-place finish on Tuesday. The Golden Bears ended the 54-hole tournament at 15-over par (290-289-300 – 879).
Cal started the day in seventh place before dropping back one spot with its final-round 300. New Mexico (-20) edged San Diego State (-19) for the team title while Washington’s Petr Hruby won medalist honors with a 12-under 204.
Kwon tallied three of Cal’s five under-par rounds throughout the tournament, including a 1-under 71 on Tuesday. The sophomore fired off three straight birdies on holes 14-16 before recording a double bogey on 17, only to bounce back with another birdie on 18 to cap his 71. Sampson Zheng shot 2-over 74 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 22nd.
