The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has awarded Kamaiu Johnson a sponsorâs exemption for this yearâs tournament being played February 8-14, 2021 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Couse.
Johnson, age 27, and the Advocates Pro Golf Association Tour Championship winner, was scheduled to make his TOUR debut this week in the Farmers Insurance OpenÂŽ but withdrew due to testing positive for COVID-19.
âThe Monterey Peninsula Foundation and the AT&T cannot be more excited to welcome Kamaiu to Pebble Beach this year,â said Steve John, CEO of the Monterey Peninsula Foundation.  âWe are impressed with Kamaiuâs perseverance as well as his golf talent,â added John.
After dropping out of school in eighth grade and finding a better life path through golf, Johnson took his game to a new level in 2020, finishing in the top 10 in the final five events on the Advocates Professional Golf Association Tour (APGA), including his win at the APGA Tour Championship.
âThis entire week has been mind-blowing. To go from rock bottom, totally devastated on Tuesday to receiving this exemption from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation and AT&T just shows how quickly things can change,â Johnson said. âMy message to start the week was how the actions of a few people and special organizations can change a life. Look no further than what AT&T, FarmersÂŽ and Honda have done for me this week alone and the impact it will have. Iâm so grateful for the opportunity.â
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2021 and will play as a professional-only event over two courses. The tournament will be televised by Golf Channel and CBS. Fans also can follow the tournamentâs social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
