One of the longer days of the week went into the books today as two rounds of golf, followed by dinner got us to our next hotel around 9 p.m.
The day started at 8:25 a.m. at the Genoa Lakes Resort course, a track that was formerly known as Sierra Nevada golf course. Back in those days I honestly had a tough time recommending the course as the greens were horrible and I didn’t want to see anyone make the drive from the Bay Area and be disappointed.
Since then I had stayed clear of the course, but am I glad I had the chance to play Monday. Under new ownership – the same as the Genoa Lakes course – the course, featuring six relatively new holes, is in much better shape and is very playable.
So much in fact, that is one of the nicer courses in the area. One word of advice – get out early as you really want to avoid the wind!!
From Genoa we made the short drive up to Clear Creek, the vastly unknown private course located right off Highway 50 as you go from Carson City to South Shore.
The course is without a doubt one of the top mountain courses in the High Sierra and depending on who you talk to – the best course.
Dinner followed on the deck and it was great, however with a 25 minute drive to our lodging property, libations were scarcely consumed. That could all go out the window Tuesday night as South Lake Tahoe and Edgewood Day s always a treat!!
For now we are at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden, Nevada for the night. The CVI is a hidden gem and a great place to spend the night. If you get a chance – we don’t this trip – spend a couple nights and enjoy the local area!
