With roughly 40,000 attendees over the four-day tournament, the Barracuda Championship has paved its way to becoming one of Reno’s core summer events. The PGA TOUR event is the only one of its kind in Northern Nevada and offers an unforgettable experience for golf fans, families and anyone looking for a weekend of good food, drinks and fun in the hills of Montrêux. Tickets are $25 and include access to The Patio, live music and more.
“To think this tournament has been around for 20 years is amazing,” said Tournament Director Chris Hoff. “So much has been accomplished in that time including nearly $4 million in donations to charities. We couldn’t do it without the support of this incredible community and it certainly wouldn’t happen without our dedicated volunteers.”
Set for July 30 through Aug. 5, the event begins with pro-ams and practice days for players and the community is invited to the Patriots Luncheon and First Tee Day, both held Tuesday.
Tournament play begins Thursday. Golf fans can enjoy one of the most unique events on the PGA TOUR, which runs a Modified Stableford format on one of course designer Jack Nicklaus’s top five courses, drawing some big names in golf.
Initial player commitments were just announced and include Graeme McDowell, Bill Haas, Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington in addition to exemptions for Doug Ghim, Norman Xiong, Wolf Pack golf alum Grant Booth and Reno Open winner and Nevada Native, AJ McInerney.
Barracuda Championship is not just for serious golf fans. There’s plenty for people looking to enjoy the summer weather with delicious food and drink, or those interested in the many family-friendly activities available outside the ropes.
Patriots Luncheon
In partnership with Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation, the Barracuda Championship pays special tribute to our nation’s troops during the annual Patriots Luncheon held Tuesday, July 31. Attendees have the opportunity to experience a military base while hearing stories of incredible heroism and strength. This year’s luncheon will honor the servicemen and women who served in the Korean War. A special presentation by Jon Yuspa, founder and CEO of Honor Flight Nevada and local Korean War veterans will offer though-provoking stories of wartime and their unique journey to visit the Korean War Memorial. First Tee Day with Norman Xoing
Have a chance to play with the pros on Tuesday, July 31. This free clinic gives children the chance to learn the fundamentals of a proper golf swing and how to play the game directly from PGA TOUR professionals. To sign up call 775-851-2332.
