 As the San Francisco Giants prepare to heat it up in the Arizona desert at Spring Training, back-to-back PGA Championship winner (2018, 2019), Brooks Koepka, was warming up from the third base foul line at Oracle Park with his 7-iron – and his driver – striking splash hits into McCovey Cove.
Following an interview stopover in Oakland, Koepka, who also has won consecutive U.S. Opens (2017, 2018), commuted into the City by the Bay via BART along with the PGA Championshipâs Wanamaker trophy for an appearance to raise awareness for golfâs second major of 2020, to be played at TPC Harding Park, May 11-17. There, Koepka will shoot for the three-peat, a feat not accomplished since Walter Hagen won four straight PGA Championships over a 100 years ago.
“It would be incredible,” Koepka said. “Obviously, you look at Walter Hagen is a name every golf fan knows. To even have a chance to put my name with his would be incredible and it would be super special. Coming back, obviously as two-time defending champ, it’s a different feeling and one you want to win this year for sure.â
Adding a little extra Bay Area flavor, Koepka was joined at the media gathering by San Jose native and two-time FIFA Womenâs World Cup champion, Brandi Chastain, Haywardâs Kristi Yamaguchi, 1992 Olympics gold medalist in womenâs figure skating and toting three World Series trophies (2010, 2012, 2014), were former San Francisco Giants, Randy Wynn and Rich Aurelia. Each stepped out of their own sportâs comfort zone to take a whack at the little white ball.
