California men’s golf improved to a tie for ninth on Tuesday (578, +10) while freshman Aaron Du moved up into a tie for third (139, -3) with one round to play at The Prestige.
Du’s 70 (-1) in the second round was one more stroke than Monday’s total, but the Beijing, China native moved up four spots on the leaderboard to lead the Bears in a tie for third. Du collected three birdies on Tuesday and now has a total of five during the tournament. Furthermore, his average score of 3.86 on par 4s is tied for the lowest in the field and his 29 pars are tied for the fourth most overall.
Meanwhile, senior Finigan Tilly matched Monday’s score of 71 (E) on Tuesday and improved to a tie for 19th (142, E) after beginning the round tied for 25th. Tilly tallied four birdies in his second round and now has eight overall. Six strokes back is junior Kyle Maspat (T68 – 148, +6) who shot a 75 (+4) on Tuesday, followed by freshman Sampson Zheng who is tied for 77th (149, +7) after improving from a 75 to a 74 (+3) in today’s round. Zheng entered his final four holes one under par, but a pair of unlucky double bogeys set him back to three over.
