Cal Ties For 11th In Cabo

The California men’s golf team ended the Cabo Collegiate in a tie for 11th place at 26-over-par after carding an 8-over 292 in the third round Tuesday at Twin Dolphin Club.

Freshman Ziqin (Eric) Zhou (+4) and redshirt freshman Sihao Cong (+5) earned top 30 individual finishes in ties for 22nd and 27th, respectively. Zhou entered the third round tied for seventh place but fell back to 22nd with a 6-over 77

Kuangyu (Tony) Chen (+15) had Cal’s lowest round of the day with an even-par 71, fueled by a 2-under back nine that included birdies on holes 11, 14 and 18. Wenliang Xie (+11), playing in his first tournament of the spring season, carded a 1-over 72 on Wednesday and was bogey free on the front nine.

Cal’s former Pac-12 Conference counterpart Arizona State (-14) captured the team title. Pongsapak Laopakdee (Arizona State), Preston Stout (Oklahoma State) and Tyler Weaver (Florida State) shared individual medalist honors at 8-under
