One of the things that gets lost every year during the Masters is the concession stands and the incredible low prices for food and beverages at Augusta for the tournament.
It’s one of the many great things about the tournament that makes it “a tradition like no other.”
Here is a run-down of the prices charged while on the grounds.
Sandwiches
$1.50: Egg Salad, Pimento Cheese.
$3: Pork BBQ, Savory Tomato Pie, Masters Club, Chicken Salad, Ham and cheese on rye, Classic Chicken
Snacks/breakfast
$2: Coffee, Blueberry muffin
$2.50: Mixed fruit
$3: Chicken Biscuit, Breakfast Sandwich
Beverages
$2: Soft drink, Bottled water
$6: Crow’s Next beer, Domestic beer, Imported beer, White wine.
If you have been to a professional sporting event – or even most college sporting events, you appreciate how low the prices are.
In fact, most golf tournaments are usually around $20 a beer but just $6 at The Masters. How do they get away with charging so little?
Because they can.
The code of conduct is such that people don’t get out of control at Augusta, or they are taken off the property, and probably not allowed back in for the foreseeable future.
Can you imagine what the already crazy crowd would be like at the Waste Management Open if the beers were just $6?
They can charge these prices at the venerable chapel that is August National without it coming back to bite the tournament.
It’s little things like this that make The Masters my favorite tournament of the year.
