The No. 18 California men’s golf team finished 10th at the Cabo Collegiate following a six-over-par 290 in the third round Tuesday. Cal entered the final day at Twin Dolphin Club in ninth place before ultimately falling back one spot to finish at 13-over (288-287-290) for the tournament.
No. 6 Arizona State won the tournament at 19-under while Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen (-10) was the individual medalist. The 15-team field featured nine top-20 teams.
Sampson Zheng shot his second even-par 71 of the tournament Tuesday to finish tied for 10th place individually at 3-under (210). The senior Golden Bear bogeyed his first hole, No. 10, for the second time in as many days before reeling off 15 consecutive pars, followed by a birdie on hole 8. Kuangyu (Tony) Chen and Eric Lee carded identical scores – 1-over 71 – for the third straight round to finished tied for 38th, while Ethan Fang and Nathan Wang tied for 48th and 73rd, respectively.
Cal was one of three Pac-12 programs competing in Cabo, finishing between Stanford (T-8th, +11) and No. 8 Arizona (11th, +17).
