An 8-pool complex and two-story spa/fitness center anchors expansion

Post-round golf massage is a treat

One huge plus to playing golf at a resort with a spa such as the Pechanga Resort and Casino is the post-round massage. That’s true whether you are on a buddies’ trip or getting away as a couple.

That’s been a treat for me after a few out-of-town rounds and it certainly helped when we stayed and played at The Journey at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula.  Temecula, once a small, remote suburb about an hour north of San Diego and an hour east of Orange County, now is a bustling suburb of 107,000 residents. It also is Southern California’s wine country so there is plenty to do on the casino/hotel site and off.

For my massage, experienced masseur Autumn took very good care of me and left me relaxed and ready for my round the next day. It was a golf-specific treatment.

The current spa will be phased out in the major expansion that the hotel started at the end of 2015. It will add 568 rooms, 70,000 square feet of additional event and meeting space as well as an amazing pool complex when completed in 2017.

What excited Autumn was it will include a custom-designed, two-story spa with 17 treatment rooms. The current spa was built in converted hotel rooms so it is much smaller, although it offers a full variety of massages, treatments and services.

The new building will have three hydrotherapy pools (currently there are none), hair and nail salon, massage, facial and skin treatments, wedding party services, men’s and women’s lounges with whirlpools and saunas as well as complete fitness center with classes.

The spa also will anchor pool complex with eight different pools. Currently, Pechanga offers a pedestrian hot tub and swimming pool. The new construction will enhance the resort as a gaming destination—giving it the same type of buzz that the opening of the Journey golf course did for golfers. Various pools will be designed with landscaping suitable for weddings or other events.
