Three Spartans finished in the top-team, led by Antonia Malate at 3-under 212, as the fifth-ranked San José State women’s golf team won their third tournament of the spring season with a two-shot win over second-ranked Oregon at the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
- The Spartans shot a 5-over 293 on Wednesday and finished at six-over 870 for the three rounds. The team was second in the field in birdies made with 40 and third in par-5 scoring at -5.
- The three tournament wins are the most for the Spartans since the 2008-09 season when the team won five tournament titles.
- In the three wins this spring, the Spartans defeated top-ranked Stanford twice (Lamkin Invitational and Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Intercollegiate) and second-ranked Oregon (Silverado Showdown).
- Malate shot a four-over 76 in the final round to finish third on the individual leaderboard at 3-under 213, her best finish of the season. She finished four shots behind Alessandra Fanali of Arizona State who finished at 7-under 209.
- Kajsa Arwefjäll recorded her fourth top-10 finish of the season as she tied for sixth at 1-under 215, shooting a 71 in the third round.
- Natasha Andrea Oon tied for 10th at 1-over 217, shooting an even-par 72 in the final round.
- Lucia Lopez Ortega shot her best round of the tournament with a 74 and tied for 33rd at 224.
- Louisa Carlbom also shot her best round on Wednesday with a 76 and tied for 70th at 234.
For the spring season, the Spartans are 54-1 in stroke play, the only loss coming to Texas Tech at the MountainView Collegiate. SJSU is 7-0 against top-10 teams.
Up next for San José State is the Mountain West Championship, April 18-20, at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The Spartans are looking for their first MW Championship and first conference championship since the 2012 WAC Championship.
