Truckee the perfect spot to relax in the middle of High Sierra grind!

By Dennis Miller

Two nights in the city of Truckee has never been so welcomed!

After living the life of a Gypsy and moving three straight nights, the chance to actually be in the same hotel room on consecutive nights is a gift! And spending it in Truckee is a blessing. The former wild west rodeo town is a wonderful place to stay and visit, enjoying world class food and golf.

There is an extensive story coming on Truckee in the next month, after I get out of rehab (just kidding!) from this trip! I had the pleasure of staying in a new place for me – the Truckee Donner Lodge (the former Holiday Inn Express right off of 80) and really enjoyed my stay.

The first night in town we had a reception at a very cool, hip place – Art Truckee – and then were divided into groups so we could experience as many of the highly rated Truckee dining experiences. My group was sent to the Truckee Tavern and it was amazing.

Instead of ordering off a menu, we were treated to a variety of options, from appetizers to the main course and finished off by desert – amazing!!

Golf wise, on Thursday, I took a two-hour lesson from Keith Lyford. It is amazing to me how it always seems to be a simple adjustment and boom you are back on track. I will have a more in-depth story on Lyford and the Academy soon!!

Following the lesson was a round at Old Greenwood, probably my favorite course in the Truckee area!

That’s it for now….off to Graeagle in the morning for 36 holes – 18 at Whitehawk followed by 18 at Nakoma on the final day of our adventure!!!
