After 18 holes, the Golden Bears are in 10th (288, +4) with freshman Aaron Du leading the way in a tie for seventh (69, -2).
Du delivered two birdies and 16 pars at Greg Norman Course on Monday and is currently five strokes behind David Puig who leads the field from Arizona State. Du’s 16 pars were tied for the most in the first round. Senior Finigan Tilly finished two strokes behind Du (71, E) and is tied for 25th. After entering the back nine three over par, Tilly recorded four birdies to ultimately pull even. Junior Kyle Maspat is tied for 52nd after shooting a 73 (+2) and freshman Sampson Zheng is tied for 83rd after finishing the first round with 75 (+4) strokes. As a team, Cal finished with 13 birdies in the opening round.
