Cal Bears Place 13th At Burns Intercollegiate

Three Golden Bears shot even-par 70 in the third round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Saturday, but the California men’s golf team was unable to make up ground on the field in a 13th-place finish at Ocean Course Hokuala.

Cal (+17) shot 7-over-par 287 in round three and finished with an 857 in the three-day. 54-hole tournament. Utah and UNLV shared title honors at 22-under-par (818).

Seniors Kuangyu (Tony) Chen and Charlie Berridge were two of the three Bears to shoot even par Saturday on the way to tying for 30th individually at 2-over (212). Freshman Ziqin (Eric) Zhou, who tied for 65th with a 6-over 216, joined Chen and Berridge with an even-par 70 in the final round.

The Bears, who teed off holes 8-10, got off to a hot start by collectively shooting 4-under-par on holes 10-12. Chen birdied two of his last four holes – 4 and 7 – to finish strong and was the only Bear to shoot under par on the front nine.
