Two spring tournaments, two wins over No. 1 Stanford. Tuesday, the San José State women’s golf team needed every last par and birdie to hold off the top-ranked Cardinal to win the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational by one shot at 10-under 854 at Meadow Club.
- San José State shot a two-over 290 in the final round, while Stanford made a furious charge with an 11-under 277. World number-one amateur and Stanford golfer Rose Zhang set a Meadow Club record on Tuesday as she shot an eight-under 64 to finish second individually.
- Spartan freshman Lucia Lopez Ortega led the Spartans with her first top-5 finish of the season, shooting a four-under 68 in the final round to finish the tournament in fourth place at six-under 210.
- In all, three Spartans finished in the top-10 individually. Kajsa Arwefjäll tied for fifth at three-under 213, shooting a 72 in the final round. Natasha Andrea Oon tied for 10th at one-under 215.
- All five Spartans finished in the top-25. Antonia Malate tied for 16th at two-over 218, while Louisa Carlbom tied for 25th at six-over 222. Individually, Jordyn Parr tied for 36th at nine-over 225.
- The Spartans tied for the second-lowest score of the season with the 10-under 854, after shooting the same score in the fall at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah.
- Arwefjäll recorded her second eagle of the season on Tuesday with one on the par-five ninth hole. The Spartans led the field with three eagles, one in each round.
- Washington’s Camille Boyd won the individual title at 14-under, 202. She shot a seven-under 65 to finish three shots head of Zhang
San José State next competes at the MountainView Collegiate, March 18-20, in Tucson, Ariz.
