The West Coast swing of the PGA Tour starts this week with The American Express in the California Desert at three courses in La Quinta.
The week after the Super Bowl, the sports world turns its attention to the Monterey Peninsula and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The tournament pairs pros and celebrities for the first three rounds at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and the Monterey Peninsula Country Clubâs Shore Course. Â It runs Feb. 3-9 with the final round played along the Pacific Ocean at Pebble Beach.

The AT&T, for 60 years, has been a tradition on the Monterey Peninsula. Its roots date back to famed singer/actor Bing Crosby who brought his celebrity friends together with the touring pros for the âCrosby Clambake.â Itâs the only celebrity pro-am now played on the PGA Tour (The American Express, back when it was hosted by legendary entertainer Bob Hope (an avid golfer like Crosby) had a similar format except it was the only five-round event.
After this weekâs La Quinta event, with the final staged on the Pete Dye designed PGA West Stadium Course, the tour moves out to the Pacific Coast at Torrey Pines outside of San Diego for Farmers Insurance Open. Then, itâs off to Scottsdale for the Waste Management Phoenix Open that concludes on Super Bowl Sunday.
