Vijay Srinivasan’s one-over par 73 was San Jose State University’s best individual score in the final round of the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic men’s golf tournament.
Srinivasan’s round consisted of four birdies and five bogeys on the par 72, 7,033-yard San Diego County Club course. Playing the back nine first, he was two under-par through seven holes played and one-under after 14 holes before finishing with his 73 in his first tournament of the 2020-21 season.
Srinivasan finished tied for 76th place with his 229 total after opening with scores of 82 and 76.
Sean Yu was the Spartans’ top finisher for individual honors tying for 45th place at 224. Kristopher Stiles was next in a 62nd place tie at 227. Nate Jetter tied for 87th at 234. Caleb Shetler posted his second consecutive 79 after signing an incorrect scorecard for a disqualification in the opening round.
In the team standings, San Jose State finished 17th in the 20-team field. The Spartans were tied for 15th at one point of the final 18 holes, but struggled on their final two holes collectively.
“We got taught quite a few lessons. We have to figure out as many we can (before the next tournament). We have to recoup,” said San Jose State University men’s golf coach John Kennaday. “We’re very close and we know what we’re capable of doing.”
UCLA took top honors in the team competition with an 868 total, six strokes fewer than Nevada at 874. Washington was third at 875.
