San Jose State’s Kristopher Stiles Tees Off in U.S. Amateur this week!

San José State men’s golfer Kristopher Stiles will tee off in the first round of the U.S. Amateur on Monday at 6:06 a.m. (PT) from The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. Stiles is playing in his first U.S. Amateur after shooting a 68 in the final round and a 141 overall (-3) in the U.S. Amateur qualifying from Crystalaire Country Club in early July. His teammates, Caleb Shetler and Kotaro Murata, both played in the U.S. Amateur a year ago. Head coach John Kennaday will be Stiles’ caddie for the tournament.

“This is a tremendous opportunity Kris has earned,” Kennaday said. “You never forget your first major tournament and we looking forward to a long week in New Jersey.”

Stiles has an 11:21 a.m. (PT) tee time in the second round on Tuesday and the first two rounds are used to cut down the participants from 312 to 64 for match play starting on Wednesday. The tournament lasts until Sunday, August 21, with the championship match.
