SJSU Women’s Golf Selected to Athens Regional at No. 2 Seed

For the 27th time in school history, the ninth-ranked San José State women’s golf team has been selected to play at an NCAA Regional. The Spartans are the No. 2 seed at the Athens Regional to be played at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., May 8-10.

San José State enters the regional as the second seed, behind top-seed South Carolina. The Spartans have played at the UGA Golf Course two other times during the NCAA Championships – the last coming in 2013 when the Spartans were tied with USC for the first-round lead. SJSU also tied for third at the 1993 NCAA Championships.

The six regions feature 12 teams and six individuals competing. The top-five teams and top individual, not on an advancing team, in each region will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 19-24, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Athens Regional teams include South Carolina, San José State, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Georgia, Maryland, Kent State, Charleston, Kansas, Furman, Augusta and Sacred Heart.

The other five regionals will be played in Pullman, Wash. (Palouse Ridge Golf Club), West Field, Ind. (The Club at Chatham Hills Golf Course), Raleigh, N.C. (Lonnie Poole Golf Course), San Antonio, Texas (TPC San Antonio) and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. (PGA National Resort).

The Spartans have won three national championships – 1987, 1989 and 1992. The program has played four times at the championships in the past 13 years – 2010 (Wilmington, N.C.), 2013 (Athens, Ga.), 2019 (Fayetteville, Ark.) and 2022 (Scottsdale, Ariz.).

Live scoring for all three rounds will be available on Golfstat.
