SJSU Women’s Golf Wins Regional, Advances to NCAA Championships for 22nd time in school history!!

Natasha Andrea Oon shot a 3-under 68 on Wednesday to win the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional individual title, and the fifth-ranked San José State women’s golf team shot an even-par 284 to win the regional title and advance to the 2022 NCAA Championships.

  • Oon won the title after shooting a 6-under 207 for the three rounds. After making par on her first hole, she was under par the rest of the round, sinking back-to-back birdie putts on the second and third holes.
  • Despite a bogey on the eighth hole to fall back to 1-under par, Oon did not waiver as she made eight pars and two birdies over her final 10 holes.
  • Oon is just the second Spartan in school history to win a regional individual title, joining Madeleine Ziegert who was the co-medalist at the 2010 West Regional hosted by Stanford.
  • Oon led the field in par 4 (-3) and par 5 (-5) scoring over the week. She also tied for first in birdies made with 11 and made 38 pars over the three rounds.
  • San José State won just the third regional title in school history (1994, 1995) since the format started in 1993.
  • SJSU shot the low round of the day with an even-par 284 and finished the regional at +10, 862.
  • The Spartans will be making their 22nd appearance at the national championships and have won three national titles – 1987, 1989 and 1992.
  • Lucia Lopez Ortega finished tied for third at even-par 213 after shooting a 1-under 70 in the third round. She started the round with a birdie on the third hole and eight pars to be 1-under at the turn. She then birdied the 10th hole before making two bogeys, four pars and a birdie to finish with her 70.
  • Antonia Malate had her best round of the regional with an even-par 71 to finish tied for 13th at 218. She made four birdies and 11 pars over her final round.
