The Blue Monster is back!
For the first time since 2016 to Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster course with the Cadillac Championship, a new Signature event for the PGA Tour.
Given the proximity of the tournament to golfs next major – the PGA from May 14-17 – some top players are taking then week, then will ramp their games heading into the PGA by playing next week in the Truist at Quali Hollow, another Signature event.
Both this week and next week carry a purse of $20 million.
It still is a loaded tournament headlined by world No. 1 Scottie Sheffler.
The course gets its name from playing 7,739 yards and it is the 56th time the course has hosted a Tour event. Previously the course hosted a Tour event from 1962 to 2016 and is one of nine current venues on Tour that has been on the schedule for more than 50 years.
The course is the second longest course on Tour, trailing only Torrey Pines South Course. The 12th hole is the longest at 667 yards.
Besides Scheffler, some of the entrants include Cameron Young, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Si Woo Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas.
The tournament will be shown on Thursday and Friday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on the Golf Channel. Friday and Saturday will see the tournament air from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on the Golf Channel and 12 noon-3 p.m. on CBS.
