Frankie and Lola’s – A hidden treasure in Morro Bay!

Finding the hole-in-the-wall type dining establishment is like a treasure hunt.

These wonderful restaurants are out there, but seldom in the general traffic flow – automotive or foot – to find them, you have to make an effort.

Like treasure, when you finally find one, it’s worth every bit of effort you put into the hunt.

Such was the case with Frankie and Lola’s in Morro Bay.

Located at the northern end of the Embarcadero area of Morro Bay, even when we knew what we were looking for, we initially missed the restaurant and had to double back to find it.

Was I glad we did!

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Frankie and Lola’s. With just a handful of tables located inside and a couple more outside, you feel like you are dining in someone’s kitchen.

My wife had Lola’s Famous French Toast. The dish was a different take on traditional French toast as it was soaked in Crème Brulee, then baked in the oven and finally topped with a caramelized praline topping.

I went with Da Bomb – a breakfast sandwich with two eggs broken served on grilled sourdough with cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato and aioli. It is one of the specialties and it’s easy to see why. It was so good, I was tempted to order a second and bring it home with me. If fact, had I not faced a four-hour drive home, I would have made the order.

We didn’t get a chance to have Frankie’s Favorite – the Chilaquilles – but be sure I will next time.

The dish is tortillas sautéed with chorizo and tomatillo salsa. It’s then topped with scrambled eggs, queso, guajillo, avocado and sour cream.

It’s a relaxed environment, one where the owner ventures out from the kitchen to talk with the customers, joking and making sure everyone is happy.

Make sure when you are in Morro Bay to hit up Frankie and Lola’s, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner!
