California men’s golf closed out the final round of The Prestige at Greg Norman Course on Wednesday, Placing 19th overall. The Golden Bears were led by senior Finigan Tilly who moved up two spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 17th.

Battling strong winds in the afternoon, freshman Aaron Du was one of three Bears to finish with 77 (+6) strokes on Wednesday. Du entered the round tied for third, but ultimately tied for 21st. His 40 pars were tied for the fifth most in the tournament. Both junior Kyle Maspat (T87 – 225, +12) and freshman Sampson Zheng (T91 – 226, +13) also shot 77s in the final round.
Over in the individual tournament, Costas Panay tied for 38th (225, +9).
“They call it growing pains for a reason,” Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men’s Golf Walter Chun said. “We played solid and put ourselves in a good position after two rounds, but we just didn’t sustain that solid play in the final round. Playing in the afternoon was hard because the wind picked up and the course played very firm. We’re learning each day and each tournament that sometimes a step back means two steps forward.”
The Bears will be back in action March 1-3 at the Cabo Collegiate which will take place in San Antonio, Texas this year.
